IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR INDIAN PASSPORT HOLDERS

The Government of India has recently introduced centralized machine readable passport printing system for Indian passports.

Following the introduction of this system, the Embassy of India in Slovakia is authorized to issue handwritten Indian passport booklets only in EMERGENCY cases.

Under the new system, the data relating to passport applicants would be uplinked to the Centralised Indian Passports Printing System (CIPPS) wherein, it would be downloaded and processed for printing. After printing, the passport would be couriered by the CIPPS to the Embassy. The Embassy would, thereafter, handover the new passport to the applicant and cancel the previous passport.

The time taken for issue of machine-readable Indian passports would be approximately one month. All Indian nationals in Slovakia applying for new passports are therefore advised to apply to the Embassy of India in Bratislava well in time before the expiry of their existing passport.

Slovak citizens visiting India

General guidelines and instructions for visa applicants

Visa application in prescribed form duly filled in and signed must be accompanied by the following:

1. Valid Slovak passport of the applicant (valid for at least six months ), with at least two blank pages;
2. Two recent passport size colour photographs of the applicant;
3. Proof of sufficient funds at the rate of US$ 50/- per day for each day of stay in India;
4. Return air-ticket;
5. Proof of medical insurance for the entire period of stay in India.

Time for processing of visa application is not less than seven working days. The Embassy reserves the right to reject any visa application without assigning any reason.

Tourist Visa:

Persons who wish to visit India as tourist, or for meeting friends and relatives, will be given tourist visas up to six months. Tourist visas are non-extendable and non-convertible. Travel agents who have to visit India frequently are, however, eligible for tourist visas for a longer duration.

A minimum gap of two months is mandatory between two successive visits as tourists to India.

Business visa:

Visitors traveling to India on business can obtain business visa valid for up to one year. Each application will be examined on merit.

Business visa applicants should enclose copies of introduction letters from their local office giving details about the purpose of their visit to India, who will bear cost etc. A similar letter of invitation from the firm or organization in India is also required. Employment visa:

Employment visa is granted for a period of up to one year. Employment visa can be obtained on furnishing proof of employment with companies in India.

Employment visa applicants should enclose copies of employment contract/invitation letter issued by the Indian employer. (Please also see frequently asked questions on Employment visa)

Student visa

Student visa can be obtained on furnishing proof of admission to recognized universities/institutions in India. The student should also produce satisfactory evidence of financial support. Student visas are valid for the actual duration of the course of study or five years whichever is less.

Transit Visa

Transit visa is granted for travel through India to reach a destination outside India. The visa will be valid for entry within 15 days of date of issue for a maximum stay of 3 days.

For a stay in India beyond 3 days, an appropriate visa should be obtained. The confirmed through air ticket for onward journey should be submitted with the application to obtain Transit Visa.

Entry visa

For all other purposes, entry visas can be obtained. These will be granted depending on the purpose of visit and eligibility, on a case to case basis.

The following visa fee is payable with effect from January 1, 2009 at the time of submission of the application:

Registration requirement for all foreigners:

Registration with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office is required within 14 days of arrival in India for visas valid for more than 180 days. Failure to do so will entail payment of a penalty of US$ 30/-.

Registration of Indian nationals:

All Indian nationals resident/new arrivals in the Slovak Republic are advised to register themselves with the Embassy of India. This will facilitate interaction with the Embassy and would also prove useful in rendering faster consular services.

PIO Cards:

Persons of Indian origin holding foreign passports, with some exceptions, are eligible to be issued a PIO card with long term validity. PIO card offers considerable benefits for its holder in visiting India. For further details regarding PIO cards, please visit http://indianpassport.nic.in.
